Another favorite ethnic peculiarity is to wear the shoes tied, but with the back of the shoes smushed down flat onto the soles and with the bare heel of the wearer showing.  That is extremely cool, and so typically negro. The children I have seen doing it are more likely a few weeks outgrown of that particular pair of shoes.  A few adults, but not many.

I'm even seeing it in so-called adults! They walk around, dragging their shoelaces on the ground. I mean, should I be stopping 25-year-olds to tell them to tie their shoes? I'd rather not risk stepping on their shoelaces. I'm sure they'd sue me. It is a ...*cultural* thing

WalMart and K-mart shoppers in Houston are famous for this unsightly foot-wear anomaly.  But the last thing an attention-hungry human needs is for some good-hearted person to publicly rationalize that they do it for a legitimate reason.   How cruel of you.  Shamey shamey.

Good hearted?  I thought displaying the fact that one's parents are too cheap or lazy to run down to SA and drop a quarter on a pair of shoes was pretty horrid.
